Health and Welfare
The University of Chicago offers you a wide range of health and welfare benefits to help meet the needs of you and your family. Medical, Dental, Vision and Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) plans are governed by Section 125 rules authorizing pre-tax contibutions.

Medical Plans
Two different types of medical plans are available for you to choose from, a Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) plan and three HMOs (Health Maintenance Organization) plans.
Dental Plans
There are two dental plans for you to choose from, the MetLife Dental PPO Plan and the MetLife Dental Copay Plan.
Vision Plan
VSP vision plan provides value and savings, choice of providers and yearly eye exams.
Flexible Spending Accounts
A Health Care FSA (Flexible Spending Account) allows you to pay for certain health care expenses using before-tax contributions from your paycheck.
Life & Disability Insurance Programs
There are several insurance programs for you to chose from including Group Life Insurance, Short-term Disability, Long-term Disability, Personal Accident Insurance and Business Travel Accident Insurance.
LONG TERM CARE INSURANCE
Helps manage the costs of long term care, and covers skilled, intermediate and custodial care in your home, adult day care center, and assisted living facility or a nursing home.
Staff and Faculty Assistance Program
The Staff and Faculty Assistance Program (SFAP) is a confidential service that provides support, counseling, referrals and resources for issues that impact your life.
Child Care Referral Services
The University provides a child care referral service for parents at no charge to assist them in evaluating and locating a child care provider that best meets their needs.
Child Care PROGRAM
Managed by Bright Horizons, a leading provider of employer-sponsored child care and early education, this onsite UChicago Child Care Center provides programs for children 6 weeks to 5 years of age.
Elder Care Referral Service
The University provides an elder care referral service designed to assist you in making elder care arrangements.
Retiree Medical Insurance
The Retiree Medical Program is available to employees age 55 or older who retire from the University and their eligible dependents.
